About Our Ice Maker Repair
An ice maker needs three things: water at the right pressure, a mold or evaporator cold enough to freeze it, and controls that know when to fill and when to harvest. When any one of those is off, you get no ice, tiny or hollow cubes, or a machine that overflows. Refrigerator ice makers usually fail at the water inlet valve, a frozen fill tube or the ice maker assembly, while under-counter and commercial ice machines add water pumps, distribution tubes, level sensors and a full refrigeration system.
Mr. Shark Appliance Repair has been repairing home appliances and refrigeration equipment since 2012, and ice machines are part of that work. The photo on this page is a real job: a Hoshizaki commercial ice machine with an ice dispenser, opened up for service with refrigerant gauges and a recovery machine connected.

Ice Maker Problems We Fix
We diagnose the cause, explain the fix and give you a clear price before any work starts.
No ice at all
Water inlet valve, a frozen fill tube, a failed ice maker module, a raised shut-off arm or sensor, or a freezer that isn't cold enough.
Small, hollow or misshapen cubes
Low water pressure, a clogged filter or valve screen, or a harvest cycle that's timing out.
Ice maker leaking water
A cracked fill cup, a leaking inlet valve or supply line, or an overflowing mold.
Ice clumped or dispenser jammed
Ice melting and refreezing in a warm freezer, a failed auger motor or a stuck dispenser door.
Bad taste or cloudy ice
An old water filter, scale buildup, or a machine that needs cleaning and sanitizing.
Ice machine not dropping ice
Harvest problems — harvest valve, water pump, thermistor or control board — or heavy scale on the evaporator.
Commercial ice machine low production
A dirty condenser, scale, water distribution problems or refrigerant issues.
Ice machine leaking or drain backing up
A clogged drain line, a cracked sump or a water pump problem.
What the $69 Ice Maker Diagnostic Includes
We check the water side, the cold side and the controls:
- Check water supply, pressure, filter and the inlet valve
- Measure freezer or evaporator temperature
- Cycle the ice maker to test fill and harvest
- On ice machines, inspect for scale and check pumps, sensors and water distribution
- On self-contained and commercial units, check the condenser, fans and refrigerant pressures
- Explain what failed and give you the repair price before any work starts
Repair or Replace Your Ice Maker?
For refrigerator ice makers, replacing the ice maker assembly or the inlet valve is a routine repair and almost always worth it compared with buying a new refrigerator.
Under-counter and commercial ice machines are usually worth repairing too: pumps, valves, sensors, boards and descaling are all fixable. Replacement becomes the better option when the compressor or evaporator fails on an older machine, or when repairs keep adding up. We'll show you what we found and let you decide. We're a repair-only company — we don't sell or install new appliances — so our advice isn't tied to selling you anything.

Ice Maker Repair FAQ
Why is my refrigerator not making ice when the water dispenser works?
If water dispenses, the supply line is fine. The usual suspects are a frozen ice maker fill tube, a failed ice maker assembly, the part of the inlet valve that feeds the ice maker, or a freezer running too warm.
Why are my ice cubes small or hollow?
Usually not enough water is reaching the mold: a clogged filter, low water pressure or a weak inlet valve. Try a new filter first; if that doesn't help, the valve or water pressure needs checking.
Do you repair commercial ice machines?
Yes. We repair commercial ice machines, including Hoshizaki units like the one in the photo on this page, as well as under-counter and refrigerator ice makers.
How often should an ice machine be cleaned?
Follow the manufacturer's cleaning schedule for your model. Scale and slime reduce production and affect taste, and heavy scale is a common reason ice machines stop harvesting.
Should I turn off the ice maker until you arrive?
If it's leaking, yes: turn the ice maker off and shut the water supply valve to the refrigerator or machine. That prevents water damage while you wait.
How much is the service call?
The service call is $69, and it's waived when you go ahead with the repair. After diagnosing the problem we give you a clear price before any work starts.
What warranty do you offer?
Every repair includes a 1-year warranty on installed parts and a 3-month warranty on labor.
