About Our Freezer Repair

A freezer usually gives warning signs before it quits: ice cream that turns soft, a thick layer of frost on the back wall, a compressor that never shuts off, or water collecting under a chest freezer in the garage. Catching the problem at that stage often means a smaller repair and less food thrown away. We repair stand-alone upright freezers, chest freezers, built-in freezer columns, and the freezer section of side-by-side, French-door and top- or bottom-freezer refrigerators.

Central Florida heat makes freezers work harder, especially the ones kept in a garage or on a lanai. A unit that holds temperature easily in January can struggle in August, and dust, lint and pet hair on the condenser make it worse. When we come out, we look at the freezer and at where it lives, because the right fix sometimes includes airflow around the unit, not just a new part.

Freezer Problems We Fix

We diagnose the cause, explain the fix and give you a clear price before any work starts.

  • Not cold enough, food softening

Often a failed evaporator or condenser fan, dirty condenser coils, a weak start relay or a defrost fault blocking airflow. The FDA recommends 0°F for freezers.

  • Heavy frost or ice on the back wall

Frost that returns within days points to the automatic defrost system — heater, defrost thermostat, timer or control board — or a gasket letting humid air in.

  • Runs constantly

Dirty coils, a failing condenser fan, a leaking door seal or low refrigerant keep the compressor from ever cycling off.

  • Clicks every few minutes but won't start

Usually the compressor start relay or overload — sometimes the compressor itself.

  • Water inside or under the freezer

A clogged or frozen defrost drain, a cracked drain pan, or on chest freezers a drain plug left open.

  • Door or lid won't seal

Torn or flattened gaskets, a sagging door, or worn hinges and lid springs on chest freezers.

  • Buzzing, rattling or squealing

Worn fan motor bearings, a fan blade hitting ice, or loose compressor mounts.

  • Temperature alarm or error code

We test the sensor and control behind the code instead of just resetting it.

While you wait, keep the door closed. USDA food-safety guidance says a full freezer holds its temperature for about 48 hours with the door shut (about 24 hours if half full).

What the $69 Freezer Diagnostic Includes

The service call covers a full check of the cooling and defrost systems, not a quick look:

  • Measure the actual cabinet temperature and compare it with the setting
  • Check the condenser coils, condenser fan and the airflow around the unit
  • Inspect the evaporator for frost patterns that point to a defrost fault
  • Test the defrost heater, defrost thermostat and timer or control board with a meter
  • Check the start relay, overload and compressor operation
  • Look over door gaskets, hinges and the drain for leaks
  • Explain what failed and give you the repair price before any work starts

Repair or Replace Your Freezer?

Most freezer failures are fans, defrost parts, relays, thermostats and gaskets. Those repairs are usually worth doing on a freezer that's otherwise in good shape, even an older one, because the cabinet and sealed system still have plenty of life left.

The harder call is a sealed-system problem — a failed compressor or a refrigerant leak in the evaporator or tubing. That work costs considerably more, and on an inexpensive chest or upright freezer that's several years old, replacing the unit is often the better use of your money. After the diagnostic we'll tell you which situation you're in. We're a repair-only company — we don't sell or install new appliances — so our advice isn't tied to selling you anything.

Freezer Repair FAQ

How cold should my freezer be?

0°F (−18°C) is the target the FDA recommends. If a thermometer in the middle of the freezer reads well above that and the setting hasn't changed, something is wrong and it's worth scheduling a diagnostic before food starts to thaw.

My freezer is frosted over. Should I just defrost it?

Manual-defrost chest freezers need defrosting now and then. On a frost-free model, heavy frost means the defrost system or the door seal has failed, so defrosting by hand only buys a few days. We find and fix the cause.

Is it worth fixing a freezer in the garage?

Usually, yes, if the problem is a fan, relay, defrost part or gasket. Garage freezers work harder in Florida heat, so we also check the condenser and the space around the unit so the repair lasts.

Can you repair the freezer section of my refrigerator?

Yes. Freezer compartments on side-by-side, French-door and top- or bottom-freezer refrigerators share many of the same parts, and we repair them. A warm fridge with a cold freezer is usually a defrost or fan problem.

What should I do with the food while I wait?

Keep the door closed as much as possible. A full freezer holds temperature longer than a half-empty one. If it's already warming, move the items you care about most to another freezer or a cooler with ice.

How much is the service call?

The service call is $69, and it's waived when you go ahead with the repair. After diagnosing the problem we give you a clear price before any work starts.

What warranty do you offer?

Every repair includes a 1-year warranty on installed parts and a 3-month warranty on labor.

When are you open?

Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. You can send the booking form anytime and we'll call you back during the next business day. Urgent repairs are prioritized during business hours.
